I've enjoyed watching the agave bloom for the last several weeks. The stalk is blooming from the bottom up. The bottom branches are dropping seed pods, the middle branches have blooms starting to open and fully open while the blooms at the very top are still developing before they open. I've also been watching a lot of bees, hummingbirds, orioles, crows and other birds feed on the nectar and distribute the pollen.

  1. Interesting observation on how the plant is blooming from the bottom (of the flower sets) up. I bet you still have hummingbirds. I still see them (as recently as yesterday evening) at my feeders. They seem to be taking their time when here I fear a hard winter... back to agave: we have some in my area (downtown Albuquerque) but I haven't gone out walking enough to notice how they ae doing. I'll have to make a better effort.
