Bald Eagle Chicks

Have you looked at the Bald Eagle Cams lately?  It was three weeks ago that I first posted about them.  The chicks are really growing and here are some screen captures from today.  The Eagle Cam at Duke Farms in Hillsborough, N.J. had the closest view of the chicks.

I found a Walking Stick!

I was cutting up some dead palm fronds and found this walking stick.
It has great camouflage for hiding.

I put it back on the trunk of the palm tree.

Hummingbirds

Here are a couple of shots of some hummingbirds, that I took the other evening.
Anna's Hummingbird
The Rufous Hummingbirds are very skittish and don't come around if they see me.  On the other hand, the Anna's Hummingbirds are very brave and will buzz around me.

Spotted Towhee

This Spotted Towhee came up briefly to the pine tree below the deck.  It had a mate but they both move away quickly.

A group of towhees are collectively known as a "tangle" and a "teapot" of towhees.

Where did the Goldfinches go?

After being away for three weeks, I have noticed that there are fewer birds in the garden.  The Lesser Goldfinches have left yet both nyger feeders are still a third full.  Since they are permanent residents in Santa Barbara I don't think they have migrated.  I wonder if these cats have anything to do with the birds moving along?

Bald Eagle Cams!

Thanks to Diana M. for sending me these links to some eagle cams.  This first link is for three cams in California, one on Santa Cruz island and two on Santa Catalina Island.  The second link is to an eagle cam on the Duke Farm, a 2700 acre property in Hillsborough NJ.
Here are some views I saw this morning.  Go check them out today, as there are chicks in the nests!
